There is no single “best” coffee bean. The best coffee beans are the ones that suit the way you brew and the flavours you enjoy. This guide matches the specialty coffees in our shop to espresso, V60 and milk drinks, explains what the labels mean (roast, process and tasting notes) and shows how to keep beans fresh in Qatar’s heat.
- Espresso and milk drinks: Brazil Cerrado (Espresso) with caramel, chocolate and hazelnut. For a fruitier shot, Ethiopia Guji Uraga (Espresso) with peach, floral, blueberry and toffee. Both come in 250 g and 1 kg bags.
- V60 and filter coffee: Ethiopia Sidamo (Omni) (white floral, berry, mango), Costa Rica Geisha (floral, mandarin, white grape, tea-like) and Colombia Banana Cake (banana cake, jackfruit, orange).
- One bag for espresso and V60: an Omni roast such as Colombia Paula Concha (yellow fruits, apple, citrus), Indonesia Gayo (honeydew, tamarind, grapes) or Colombia Caicedo (honey, yellow fruits, milk chocolate).
- No grinder or machine: Drip Box: single-serve bags of ground specialty coffee. Hang one on your cup and add hot water.
How to choose the best coffee beans: 4 things to check
- A roast that suits your brewer. Our coffees are labelled Espresso or Omni. Espresso roasts are developed for body and sweetness under pressure and with milk. Omni roasts are a little lighter and work both in an espresso machine and in a V60.
- Tasting notes. Chocolate, caramel and nut notes give a classic, comforting cup that goes well with milk. Fruit and floral notes come through best in black coffee and filter brewing.
- Process. Washed coffees usually taste clean and bright. Natural and anaerobic coffees are often fruitier and sweeter, with more body. Every product page lists the process.
- Freshness and whole beans. Coffee loses its aroma quickly once it is ground. Buy whole beans in a size you will finish within a few weeks, and grind just before brewing.
Best coffee beans for espresso in Qatar
For espresso, choose a coffee roasted for espresso, or an Omni roast you enjoy black. Espresso magnifies everything (sweetness, acidity and bitterness), so a balanced, sweet coffee is the easiest place to start.
Brazil Cerrado (Espresso)
A natural-process Bourbon with caramel, chocolate and hazelnut. Smooth, low in acidity and forgiving to dial in: the classic choice for a chocolatey espresso and for every milk drink.
250 g · 1 kg
Ethiopia Guji Uraga (Espresso)
A natural-process Ethiopian heirloom coffee with peach, floral, blueberry and toffee. A brighter, fruit-led shot for people who like an espresso with character.
250 g · 1 kg
Tools that help: the Barista Hustle Tamper for a flat, even tamp, a Rhino dosing cup to move your dose without mess and a Rhino shot glass to check your yield.
Best coffee beans for latte, cappuccino and Spanish latte
Milk softens acidity and hides delicate floral notes, so milk drinks need a coffee whose chocolate, caramel and nut flavours come through. Brazil Cerrado (Espresso) is our first pick for lattes, flat whites, cappuccinos and sweet Spanish lattes made with condensed milk. For a latte with a hint of fruit, try Ethiopia Guji Uraga (Espresso): its toffee and blueberry notes work well with milk.
For a mocha, add Organic Drinking Chocolate to your espresso with steamed milk. Steam milk in a Barista Space 360 ml pitcher for one drink, or the 600 ml pitcher for two or more.
Best coffee beans for V60 and filter coffee
Filter brewing shows the delicate side of coffee: florals, fruit and clarity. Lighter roasts and Omni roasts suit it best.
Ethiopia Sidamo (Omni)
Natural anaerobic (72 hours), with white floral, berry, mango and banana notes. Sweet and expressive in a V60.
250 g
Costa Rica Geisha
A natural-process Geisha from Finca Brumas del Zurqui: floral, mandarin, blackberry, white grape and a tea-like finish. A coffee for special moments.
150 g
Colombia Banana Cake
Washed with yeast fermentation, with banana cake, jackfruit, watermelon and orange notes.
200 g
Ethiopia Idido (Omni)
A natural Ethiopian with mango, peach and walnut. Great value for everyday filter coffee.
250 g
Your V60 kit: a Hario V60 ceramic dripper 02 or the pink V60, V60 #02 filter papers, a Timemore Black Mirror Basic 2 scale, the Brewista Artisan gooseneck kettle and a Timemore 600 ml server.
One coffee for espresso and V60: what “Omni roast” means
An Omni roast sits between a filter roast and an espresso roast, so the same bag works in an espresso machine, a V60, a French press or an AeroPress. If you brew more than one way at home, start here:
- Colombia Paula Concha (Omni): a natural 20° Brix Caturra with yellow fruits, apple and citrus.
- Indonesia Gayo (Omni): natural anaerobic from Gayo, Aceh, with honeydew, tamarind, grapes and berries.
- Colombia Caicedo (Omni): washed, with honey, yellow fruits and milk chocolate. Also lovely with milk.
- Ethiopia Idido (Omni): mango, peach and walnut.
Coffee powder or whole beans?
Ground coffee (“coffee powder”) is convenient, but it loses its aroma within days of grinding, especially in warm weather. Whole beans keep their flavour much longer, so grind just before you brew.
No grinder or machine? Drip Box Ethiopia and Drip Box Colombia are the easy option: single-serve bags of ground specialty coffee that hang on your cup. Just add hot water. If you own an xBloom machine, try xPods.
How to keep coffee beans fresh in Qatar
- Keep beans in an airtight container or the resealed bag, away from sunlight and heat: not next to the stove and not in a hot car.
- Don’t keep the bag you are using in the fridge. Moisture and smells get in every time you open it.
- Buy what you will finish in 2–4 weeks: 250 g for most homes, 1 kg for heavy espresso use or an office.
- Grind only what you need for each brew.
